Safe Routes throughout the School Year
Back to School Night
Back to School Night is a great opportunity promote your Safe Routes to School Program~ encourage parents to walk their children to school, participate in walking school bus programs, or take an active role in promoting walking or bicycling at the school.
International Walk to School Day (I-WALK)
Each October, the Hunterdon County Safe Routes to School Program joins in celebrating International Walk to School Day (I-WALK). The global event provides the perfect opportunity to "launch" for your SRTS program at the start of the new school year. HART can help to set up an event at your school and provide you with special I-WALK materials.
Some schools adjourn their walking school buses for the winter months, while others continue to walk all year. Whatever your school decides, the winter months provide a great time to invite HART staff to your school to conduct pedestrian safety presentations and in-class activities.
Each April, HART sponsors Hunterdon County Walk to School Week. This weeklong event offers a great kick off to the spring walking season; introduce/re-introduce a walking school bus, create excitement around the warmer weather and opportunities to walk to school. The event features poster and picture contests, essay contests, and themed walk to school days. HART staff is available to work with you to customize the event for your school.
