What is HART Commuter Information Services? HART Commuter Information Services is a transportation management association (TMA). TMA's are public private partnerships formed on a county-by-county basis to promote ridesharing and address traffic/transportation issues. There are eight TMA's serving New Jersey. TMA's are funded, in part, by grants from the NJ Department of Transportation and NJ TRANSIT (public) and member support (private). HART is an acronym for Hunterdon Area Resource for Transportation.

Are HART services free? Yes. All HART services are offered free of charge to those who live and work in Hunterdon County.

Does HART operate the LINK? No. The LINK is operated by the Hunterdon County Department of Human Services. However, as Hunterdon County's only intra-county transportation service, HART advocates for the LINK and works to raise awareness about its availability to all Hunterdon County residents and employees.

How do I find a carpool or vanpool? Simply complete the Share a Ride application. The information you provide will be entered into HART's RIDEPRO system and matched with other commuters who have expressed interest in sharing a ride.

Will the information I provide be sold or provided to other organizations or mailing lists? No. Because HART is funded, in part, by the NJ Department of Transportation and NJ TRANSIT, we are prohibited from sharing commuter information. All information is used strictly to match you with other commuters.

What do I do if I receive a match letter from HART? It is completely up to you to if you choose to contact the commuters identified as potential carpool/vanpool mates. Once you have formed your carpool or vanpool, contact HART to find out about commuter support incentives available to Hunterdon County bound carpools and vanpools.

Won't I be stranded without my car if I share a ride to work? HART offers registered carpoolers and vanpoolers an Emergency Ride Home for such situations. HART will pay the cost of a rental car or driving service to get you home. Some restrictions apply.

What if the person that I carpool or vanpool with leaves the company? Contact HART or complete the ridematch application to find new or additional riders.

What if I already carpool or vanpool? Contact HART to register your carpool or vanpool and begin taking advantage of the commuter support programs available to Hunterdon County bound carpools and vanpools.

As an employer, how can HART help me? The State of New Jersey offers a variety of financial incentives and recognition programs to employers who promote carpooling and vanpooling at their worksites. HART can assist you in taking advantage of these incentives.

If my company promotes carpooling or vanpooling, are we responsible for administering these programs? No. HART is available for any assistance you may need.

If my employees come to work in a carpool or vanpool and get into an accident, is my company liable for any injury or damage? No. The Ridesharing Act of 1981 protects New Jersey employers from any liability that may result from a carpool or vanpool arrangement.

Does the employer pay for vanpools? Vanpools are leased by employees from a third party vanpool provider. The monthly lease costs are paid by employee vanpool riders. Lease costs include maintenance and insurance coverage for the vans.
