One on One Employment Transportation Coaching Helps Job Seekers

A lack of reliable transportation can be a significant impediment to those seeking employment. Funded by a grant from the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board, HART provides education on available transportation options to get to work. “The key is to put transportation at the front of the employment search process,” says Cathy Taglienti, HART Community Mobility Coordinator. “There is no point in an individual applying for a job for which they cannot consistently get to work, on time.”

HART’s approach is to meet with individuals who have been referred by the Greater Raritan One Stop Career Center to discuss their transportation needs and to identify geographic areas that can be access by public transportation, including the Hunterdon County LINK Transportation System. A customized transportation plan is developed for the customer, which turn helps them focus on where they should focus their job search. Since the inception of the program three years ago, HART has received referrals for 61 customers and created 47 Travel Plans. Twelve (12) individuals found employment with HART assistance.
